July 23, 2026: City of Menlo Park Bedwell Bayfront Park Bird Walk No. 7

Enjoyed a great morning bird walk with some wonderful people and we saw many different species of birds:.

We started near the entrance and spent some time watching the cliff swallows fly in and out of the roof eaves. We were trying to figure out if there were any new offspring left in the mud nests but it seemed they had all fledged by now, which makes sense since most of them fledge by end of June to the beginning of July.

It was super active on the initial walk along on the Bay front where we saw a Great Egret, Green Heron, a House Finch, Black-necked Stilts and some ducks,

As we went out further along the water, we saw Forrester Terns, Snowy Egrets and Greater Yellow Legs,

As we hiked up the hill in the back of the park and walked back through the park, we did not see a lot of birds. We did see a few California Towhees and a hummingbird.

We ended up at the bathrooms in the main lot and I asked if they would like to go a bit more so we walked back up the hill to one of the tallest hills overlooking the bay front and one of our participants spotted the resident coyotes right below us and this was one of the highlights of the day!

These are the cliff swallow nests. Most likely all the new born swallows have left at this point in time.
